Toffee Popcorn!
04:15Say whaaaat? Home made toffee popcorn? I had the same reaction myself to this odd snack suggestion last night.. Sounds pretty tough, I thought to myself, not what I need to be doing after a long day, I thought again. But my boyfriend wore me down with his enthusiasm and we started cooking. It's actually so simple and quick, I was amazed! Now it will be a feature for every movie night!
I didn't manage to snap a pic because it was devowered in an instant, but you can picture it, toffee popcorn, the name alone is mouth watering!
Two seperate sauce pans are needed (one with a lid for the popcorn)
First pan:
1tsp butter
1 tbsp oil
Pinch of salt
100g popcorn kernels
Heat the oil and the butter together, add the salt and cook the popcorn kernels on a medium heat untill all have popped. Cover with a lid to keep the place clean!
(If you want to make life much easier, pop in a bag of microwaveable popcorn and cut out this step!)
Second pan:
4 tbsp golden syrup
40gs brown sugar
30gs butter
1tsp water
Mix the butter, sugar, syrup and water together on a medium to high setting, bringing to the boil. Stir with a wooden spoon throughout. Cook untill dark golden colour is achieved and all sugar has been dissolved. (Should be about 5 mins)
Drizzle the toffee over the popcorn straght from the pan and leave to set for a minute or two and vuala! Fresh toffee popcorn!
Hurray!
